What Magpie stores, and what it does not.

What the extension reads

Only the page you are on, and only when you click. Magpie holds no permission to read pages in the background: the access arrives with your click and covers that one tab. Nothing is summarised on page load.

What reaches the server

When you ask for a summary, the transcript or article text is sent to Magpie, which passes it to the model that writes the summary. Summaries of public videos and articles are stored and served to other people who ask for the same thing, which is why they are free. The text is stored alongside them.

What is never stored

Anything behind a login or a paywall. Magpie does not read email. Your questions to a summary are answered and not kept.

Accounts

Using Magpie needs no account. An anonymous identifier is created on your device so daily limits can be counted. If you sign in, Magpie stores your email address and a Google account identifier, and nothing else.

What we measure

Whether a summary was asked for, whether it was already stored, whether a limit was reached, and how long the source was. Never the page, the title, the text, or the summary.

Payments

Handled by Stripe. Magpie never sees your card details.

Deleting your data

Email hello@readmagpie.com and your account and its history will be deleted. Shared summaries of public content are not tied to you and remain.
